Good endings are always bittersweet. (Bad endings are just sweet, as in, great it's over!) Reading a great ending is always exciting, until it's over and you realize it's over. That's when you feel the loss.

So with great sadness, the fourth issue of Jim Butcher's Dresden Files: Welcome to the Jungle puts an end to the Dabel Brothers excellent mini-series. The bright side is that this issue really delivers; it's an all-fighting extravaganza with Harry kicking some serious Hag butt. While there is not much to the story or dialogue at this point other than a final confrontation, the issue still provides a extremely satisfying conclusion to the series.

Harry has finally uncovered the real murderer at the Lincoln Park Zoo. Just fighting one of the powerful Hags responsible for the murders at the zoo would test the boundaries of Harry's power. Unfortunately for Harry, he has to face three Hags at the same time. Can Harry's resourcefulness get him out of another seemingly impossible situation? I think you can probably already guess the answer.

Butcher closes the show here with a bang, giving us the action-packed grand finale. While it's not his best issue in the series, since the dialogue is secondary, it still adequately accomplishes the job it sets out to do, which is to give us some cool fight scenes. The final issue is ultimately artist Ardian Syaf's show with his fight scenes showcased in big panels and splash pages. Like the previous issues, Syaf delivers some really beautiful work. Dabel Brothers has made a wise choice letting Syaf do the artwork for the upcoming Storm Front adaptation which launches in October.

Overall, Butcher and Syaf have proven beyond a doubt that the Dresden Files can not only work successfully as a comic series, but excel in the medium. For me, Storm Front can't come soon enough.

Final Grade: 87 out of 100

lomax-lamat,

I had the same problem with tracking down issues of the series. Many of the stores would only order a few issues which would sell out on the first day.

From the comic book store owners I talked to, only one of them had a clue that the Dresden Files might actually be popular. Hopefully, they have taken note of this and they will order more issues of Storm Front in October.
