Jim Butcher, the bestselling author of the Dresden Files series, returns to script the second issue of Jim Butcher's Dresden Files: Welcome to the Jungle. After a spectacular first issue, Jim and artist Ardian Syaf had lofty expectations to live up to with this issue. Well, have no fear as they more than live up to the quality displayed in the first issue.
Harry Dresden is investigating the mysterious death of a security guard at the zoo. In typical Harry fashion, his poking around gets him targeted by malevolent wizardly forces: this time occasioning an attack by a group of possessed tigers and lions. Only Harry's wit and resourcefulness saves him from being a tasty tiger treat. This leads Harry deeper into the murder investigation, getting some unexpected help from one of the zookeepers, Willamena "Will" Rogers.
Eventually during the course of his investigation, Harry uncovers an artifact that he brings to Bob, a spirit of intellect that resides in a human skull. Bob has some scary stuff to tell Harry about the artifact, and before Harry can fully process the information, he finds himself under attack by a demon dog. Just another day for Harry Dresden.
This is classic Dresden Files stuff here as Jim is clicking on all cylinders. The witty and sarcastic dialogue and the fast-paced action, which is what is great about the books, is also present in the comics, which makes this an incredibly enjoyable and rip-roaring ride. Fans of the novels will absolutely love the comics and the portrayal of all their favorite characters. While fans of the comics should definitely check out the novels to get an even higher dose of Jim Butcher related goodness.
Ardian Syaf's artwork is absolutely gorgeous. So far, he is the perfect artist for the Dresden Files as his art matches the novel's descriptions exactly. This is really a comic that is not only a feast for the eyes, but a damn good story too.
